I was talking to my sister, Jan, the other day and she was telling me about how she fitted Ricky Gervais for the Ted Baker suit that he wore when he was compere of the Golden Globes in January in LA. Now, love him or hate him, I’m not sure if you saw the show but he made a shameless plug about his suit and how great it was, live during the performance. Great publicity and marketing if you can get it. He wasn’t paid to do this but seemingly made the plug off his own back because he was ecstatic with the suit and the fit….made him look great.
Now, my sister is understandably proud of her part she played in the whole process and he talks about the fitting process at Abbey Road studios here on his blog (scroll down to just below the snowy picture). This guy needs help with his blog….really hard to find stuff.
Now, you may be asking, what has this to do with this blog. Two things, I believe:
1. Promotional and marketing opportunities are all around us. We just need to be creative in thinking about opportunities and have the guts to go after and ask for them; and
2. If you delight your customers then they’ll just talk about you off their own back without you needing to prompt them.
Do you have any great stories about unsolicited plugs that you have received?
Go on, share your stories.
